Mattia Carfagna

Mattia Carfagna is the son of Francesco Carfagna, master of the Altura domaine on the island of Giglio, just off the coast of Tuscany. Mattia, who moved to France originally to cook fell in love with the wines of Auvergne (we understand), and finally settled down in the region, took some vines formerly helmed by Catherine Dumora and Manu Duveau, and now counts himself an active vigneron member of the dynamic region. While the project remains humbly small and Carfagna has to look elsewhere for grapes as well, we do have a few bottles of his proprietary Gamay d’Auvergne from the iconic Chateaugay vines—very fresh stuff in now for the first time on the west coast.
