Yann Durrmann
Alsace, France
For anyone familiar with the western European wine and restaurant route, Yann Durrmann’s thirst-quenching Alsatian bottles should be instantly recognizable. A staple of quality BTG programs far and wide, Durrmann’s labels remind me of an era of lost nights partying at P. Franco, gulping Pinot Blanc during the calm before a storm of 75s and 150s being ripped off the shelves, pastas and crudos on everyone’s plates, and just straight up good cheer around—no bad vibes allowed. Sometimes I think those days are truly gone, the proliferation, fetishization and utter professionalization taking hold of a world that was really in the first place all about sharing and simply having a good time. Of course I’m guilty of all of this too sometimes, but I feel that my role in the world of wine is to share, and I try my best at that. Anyways, what the fuck tangent am I leading myself towards right now? Yann’s wines are beautiful, and I think this is the first time we’ve had them in abundance in Los Angeles. The Alsace section of my cave is stocked right now, and Durrmann is the perfect addition, his domaine’s passionately grown grapes morphed into bottles that hit that center we’re always craving.
