Julien Guillot
Macon, France
*Cellar pulls
As time passes and trendy winemakers go as fast as they came, I find myself returning to the Maconnais nectars of Julien Guillot, especially as the temperatures begin to drop and cooking starts to take longer than what we’ve been accustomed to over the past few months (no more quickie tomato salads). Cuvée Auguste has become especially alluring to me as of late, a tonic-like Pinot Fin with haunting aromatics, a juice that feels like it should be savored, though actually impossible as with all good natty it’s just a little bit too easy to drink. Don’t sleep on Manganite either, a grand Gamay hiding in its civilian plain clothed label.
