Pacina
(Siena, Italy)
Pacina is one of those storybook domaines whose aura feels as if it could be straight out of an Antonioni film, or even part of a moodboard from some influencer that shows up in your explore feed. But it really isn’t at all as corny as the latter. An estate run by Giovanna and Stefano Borsa, Pacina dates back centuries, and as early as 1987 were already making wines without the addition of sulphur dioxide. In my mind, spiritually akin to the work of Bruno Schueller, Giovanna’s and Stefano’s practice is a picture perfect example of modernity and tradition colliding, and the results are wines that feel classically Tuscan from another world; rich yet wild, racy yet streamlined, and always masterfully improvised. I’m especially fond of the wines of Pacina, and look forward to sharing them with friends and loved ones as the Los Angeles fall finally begins to settle in.
