Fauvettes
Macon, France

Maryse Chatelin is the wife of Alexandre Jouveaux, the oft written about former fashion photographer for Chanel who decamped from Paris to the Macon to make transcendent Chardonnays. While Alexandre has struggled with fermentations over the past few years, the more overlooked Pinot Noirs of Maryse have stayed steadily of high quality. 2022 is obviously a hot year in the area, and Chatelin’s juice reflects this, but it is also an extremely elegant and well made bottle with a litte roughness around its edges, just the kinds that we like. It does that thing that Pinot can do in hot years, masquerading as Syrah, and yet it’s so obviously not Syrah on the palate. Real heads know to keep this for some time for ultimate reward. High quality ivresse here no doubt. Now if we could only get some of the Chardonnay she makes too...
